The aim of this session is to uncover financial practices of elites in the Global South. Through ethnographic investigations with hard to access populations from East and Southeast Asia, Latin America, Arab States, and Africa, presenters reveal the speculative nature of global finance, its embeddedness in and transcendence of national institutional frameworks, and professional practices that sustain it.
